Silent Movie 03:36
chorus: Imagine life were a silent movie there’d be music all the time life would be so uncomplicated wouldn’t that just be divine I’d be wearing gowns of velvet satin, silk or other kind dining with Mr. Chaplin and having a grand ol' time We’d bat eyelashes at each other grin and look away so shy no need for lengthy conversation why ruin a perfectly good time chorus We’d run about chasing each other with arms flailing around hop into a moving vehicle train, car, or caravan And when the sun went down we’d hang around, an underground cabaret, sip cognac, sit on each other’s laps and laugh the night away chorus Imagine life were a silent movie there’d be music every second of the day, life would be so much more enjoyable wouldn’t you say Imagine life were a silent movie every musician would be fully employed life is a silent movie choose your soundtrack, leave your inhibitions at the door.

I’m a steampunk pixie on a cabaret stage I live in bohemia with bohemian friends we’re all kind of nuts but that’s ok we’re got science and magic in our blood and our brains. Combat boots crinoline and lace my fishnets are torn, I like‘em that way I’ve got bat wings under my skin they come out at night that’s when adventure begins. Fly with me to the moon We’ll eat blue cheese with the man in the moon Carry on with no cares in the world ‘cause time is our friend and we can fly anywhere. I’m a steampunk pixie on a cabaret stage that might seem funny but I’m wired that way I wouldn’t trade this life for a life of mundane too much mischief and fun coming my way I’m a steampunk gypsy on a cabaret stage I’ve got pixie dust in my raven’s cage brass gadgets put together in mischievous ways I’m anachronistic, bi-linguistic, not to mention wholly mystic in the most spirited way Fly with me to the moon we’ll ride in my big hot air balloon we’ll look down at the earth from there spread our wings and fly high in the air Fly with me to the moon we’ll glide in my big hot air balloon We’ll look down at the earth from above blow it kisses send it lots of love I’m a steampunk pixie that’s who I am I fry my frogs in a brass frying pan I like men with leather arm bands and women with wings, velvet corsets and fans I’m a steampunk pixie that’s who I am I go both ways whenever I can Whether by magic or by steam I’ll get there in style with glitter and gleam Fly with me to the moon we’ll glide in my big hot air balloon We’ll explore the heavens above make it back for crumpets, tea and a little love Fly with me to the moon we’ll glide in my big hot air balloon We’ll explore the heavens above make it back for crumpets, tea and a little love

Come close my darlin’ I must confess my pearls are not real and I don‘t own this dress My shoes are on loan, gloves a garbage can find it’s starting to feel like 1929 I’m not a countess like I had said I don’t own this mansion and I make the beds I once lived a queen’s life, now I’m just broke My husband ran off with some other bloke But through it all it’s so clear to see earrings and bracelets don’t serve the hearts needs Although it be true, alas all’s a game the material world is to blame. Pardon me darlin’ but this has to be Empty your pockets and strip to your knees My weapon is loaded so please don’t be brash open your wallet and give me your cash Even at the end of the day when my heart cares not for what you can pay The world still spins and sunrise will come and life must go on and on and on, and on, and on Even at the end of the day when my heart cares not for what you can pay The world still spins and sunrise will come life will go on Lower your gun dear I must profess I knew they were faux pearls and your clothes don’t impress In the same boat we sail so why not be partners a la Clyde and Bonnie Now that all is said and done we can join forces two as one For deep in our hearts we found the key like Jack and Sally we’re meant to be Now the charade is over and done we will march forward two as one for deep in our hearts we found the key like Jack and Sally we’re meant to be.

Tie You Up 03:32
Write me a letter and tell me how you miss me more than ever How you think about me day and night in good or bad weather How you curse the day your eye was caught by another The plumage groomed to lead you to a nest of prickly feathers Chorus: Tie you up, tie you down take out your heart and throw it around leave it out there in the cold maybe then you’ll know Tie you up, I’ll tie you down rip out your heart and throw it around leave it out there in the snow maybe then you’ll know Sing me a song so sweet and kind make me reconsider The curse I put on you last night that’ll damn your life forever Sing it to me from below my window at midnight Bring with you a fiddle man make it so romantic Chorus Write me a letter and pour it out how you’re so sorry You wish you could take it all back ‘cause you realize when you’re sixty You’ll be sad and alone if I’m not with you Your heart will ache and then will break ‘cause I’m your one and only, only only you, can... Tie me up, tie me down let’s have some fun and fool around Tie me up, I’ll tie you down, we’ll have some fun and fool around

I'm Free 04:29
When I was younger I wanted to be in a traveling circus so I could see the whole wide world a carousel of dancers, magicians and an elephant named Nelli packed her trunk I didn’t know who I wanted to be but I knew I wanted I wanted to be free Ups and downs I got turned around My petals were falling all over the ground I was blinded by the sun I could not see That big huge forest for that one damn tree I wasn’t where I wanted to be but I still knew what was right for me A spirit man once said to me you’ll never be confined and you’ll always see I sat on an egg I threw out the book and here I stand completely hooked I might not know where I am but I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be I said I might not know where I am but I know I’m exactly where I was meant to be That’s right I’m free I’m free yeah, that’s right....

Lunar Frenzy 03:46
Intoxicating you are from deep within the recesses of my heart you disinter the silver gold melting through that open door a portal to a world... where everything is possible no such thing as diabolical and visions can be real Conspire with me set your heart free no boundaries in lunar frenzy Questioning the one who chose to ride the golden ray of the sun only to set a blaze the path he trod relentless in eclipsing of the coolness of our home Oasis in the darkened dome monarch of vast oceans that sway to your command Aspire with me set your mind free share and be in lunar frenzy Mediate for all so we may thrive beyond the call of old beckoning the silver orb to find its rightful place in space and time the lifting of the veil Beauty, mystery come to light the gentle kiss to an expectant bride the union is complete Conspire with me set your soul free dance with me in lunar frenzy

When did we forget the thrills the sway getting carried away Why’d we put aside the things that made us laugh out loud Oh why, oh why we let rain chase our cloudless skies away Oh why, oh why we let that time slip us by We want it back! A little of this a little of that if we can imagine it it’s a fact that we can take it back it’s now or never take it from me like worlds colliding it’s easy to see it’s make believe but not a dream it’s as real as print in a magazine Remember who we were and who we always imagined we’d be Like a shooting star we’ll land in the place of our wildest dreams So far, so far away, f rom the drudge, grey and mundane We’ll go, so far away to where we were meant to be We could make it happen! A little of this a little of that reinventing where we’re at We could make it happen it’s now or never take it from me charging full head of steam Standing side by side we’ll kick away any no pass signs Red turns to green as all becomes as we had dreamed Shakespeare had it wrong, wrong, wrong no potions drunk no daggers drawn Adventure starts a new, new, new now we know just what to do We made it happen! A little of this, a little of that no more imagining it’s a fact that we made it happen it was now or never it was plain to see charging full head of steam We made it happen...

about

The follow-up to the breakthrough Happy Madness, Hey Hey Cabaret continues the dynamic cabaret duo's shift into a touring troupe that uses the recording studio to bring out its best. Guitarist Scott Helland (who was a member of the legendary `80s punk group Deep Wound with Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis and Lou Barlow and Outpatients) particularly beefs up his sound. His acoustic power chords provide a punkish energy to tracks like "Silent Movie," "Steampunk Pixie," and "I'm Free." Vocalist Samantha Stephenson sings in a variety of voices that tease, sympathize, and mock the unusual circumstances the songs dictate. She writes with an eye and ear for humor, ensuing the songs' narratives never tire. "Confession of Jack Bonnie and Sally Clyde" dances on the head of a pin and "Birthday Fanfare," "Hey Hey Cabaret," and "Lunar Frenzy" kicks up the duo's manic side.
